Best Metal Detector - Minelab 5000 is Simply the Best Machine Out There Today

Having owned and used the 17000,2000,3500,4500,and now the 5000 I am of the firm opinion that the best metal detector out there is the Minelab 5000.

It has it's drawbacks in that a complete beginner will need to get instruction and ongoing support to have any hope of operating it but using anything less is a handicap.

The 5000 is incredibly flexible allowing settings to be changed to suit all types of ground and fine tuned for specific detecting jobs.

Undoubtedly the big plus is the quietness of the machine which makes slight signals stand out more.

A very poor point i.e. the lack of an overall audio response volume control. I hear what minelab say about using one of the specific volume controls but they only change a specific part of the audio (target response etc) I also hear what minelab say about using the threshold as a volume control and that is plain silly. To detect effectively I find advantage in being able to use all the audio response tools on the machine to manipulate what I hear but I do miss an overall volume control(currently achieve this using a DETAC Super Sound).

Instruction manual needs a complete re-write as well

Minelab 5000 Review - Yes it is Value for Money

I just got back from 6 days of detecting with the new minelab 5000.

Found over half a kilo with the biggest being 516 grams at a depth of 800mm and a nice 64 gram at 400mm.

The machine ran well and hot rocks were easy to distinguish from gold.Although lead will always sound the same.

We hired two 5000s for the week which I would recommend as we still have heaps to learn, coil size mono or double d with mono being our choice.

Dont rush out and buy one unless you plan to be out for a month at a time.

Talk to your minelab dealer and get as much info as you can as we did. Peter.
