Geomap WA is  GIS System used OFFLINE

GeoMap WA is a Geographic Information System software program provided by the Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration (DMPE) in West Australia than enables you to;

-       View Geographic and Geological Data and Maps (e.g. Geological Maps, Tenements, Mines)

-       Query the data that is included in the layers (e.g. tenements “Who owns it, When does it Expire? Gold Mines “What type of mine. Historical Mines, Goldmines”)

-       Change Symbols on data being displayed so they can be quickly identified (eg Scraping and detecting areas, Dryblowing areas, locations of Gold, Section 40E permit boundaries).

-       Show only data that you want to see (e.g. Only Live tenements, or Only Gold Mines, only tenements owned by “?Name?”).

-       Turn layers of data on and off so you only focus on what you want to see.

-       Connect your PC to a GPS aerial and see exactly where you are on the ground in relation to tenements, geology, topography, mines and other geographical data you have included.

How does Geomap WA Relate to Tengraph WEB and Enhance it

What is Tengraph Web?

Tengraph Web is an Online program run by Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration (DMPE) so you need to be connected to the internet to use it.

In a nutshell, this is how the Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration Site describes it;

  • TENGRAPH® displays the position of Western Australian mining tenements and petroleum titles in relation to other land information and provides an easy means of determining land available for mineral exploration.

Tengraph Web tells you where you are allowed to go prospecting or metal detecting in WA and it is updated daily (Monday to Friday) with the changes in Tenements.

  • It displays the POSITION of WA Mining Tenements and Titles....AND
  • Provides an EASY means of determining LAND AVAILABLE for mineral exploration. (Where you are allowed to go prospecting or metal detecting!)
  • It gives a CURRENT and ACCURATE picture of land under mining activity.
  • It is also LIVE and UP TO DATE –

Tengraph Web is accessed ONLINE

Whereas Geomap WA is a DMPE Windows Software programme you use OFFLINE.

Tengraph WA Training

Over the past few years, we have had training for Geomap on the Geomap Training Website.

In March 2026 we need to update all that training due to the changes to Geomap where the datum for maps and all the information is going from GDA94 to GDA2020 so access to buying the previous training has been removed.

However, we are open to rebuilding that training if there is an interest in us doing that.

If you are interested, please complete the form here - If we get sufficient interest we will rebuild the training for you

Geomap WA - What I Use it For

  • Although there is now a few apps on the marketplace that you can use in the field I have found Geomap on my PC to  be able to do additional things very easily like;
  • Using it for more professional pursuits (for example I use it for setting up sampling grids at specific grid points on our lease then travelling to those points and taking the samples then later putting the results of the samples in.).
  • Saving tracks in and out of a place  easily.
  • Saving points where gold has found then comparing it to the geology and other data I have added to Geomap.
  • Adding shapefiles I have created in Tengraph or GeoVIEW particularly for specific geology types or other data that I want to use in the field.
  • Creating shapes or graphics which I particularly want to make sure I do not cross boundaries or miss identified hot spots. This is good for Section 40e permits so you know where your boundaries are in the field.
  • Create my own shapefiles and adding them to a project quickly  through Excel Spreadsheets.
  • Adding Shapefiles for other information which is not otherwise available offline (A class reserves, Native title shapefiles and the like which is available ONLINE in Tengraph Web but not offline)
  • As a backup for other tools like GPS in the field.
  • As a record of trips and printing of information on previous trips.
  • I  also use this for annual reports to DMIRS and as reporting to other people who are interested in our tenement information.
  • As a simple way to report finds for Section 40e reports and also reports to Leaseholders that have let me detect on their leases. Accurate and Easy!

For a program that is provided without cost for the Department of Mines in WA the Geomap WA  program is unbelievable value and very powerful.
